Panther Quiz Bowl Moves to State Competition

Panther Quiz Bowl Moves to State Competition

The Woodlawn Quiz Bowl team has participated in several events this year, and their success is building with each competition. The Panther team has competed in the Brother Parsons Invitational at Brother Martin and the Dutchtown High Invitational, which are both National Academic Quiz Tournaments. NAQT events cover all academic topics, plus sports and pop culture.

On February 29th, the Quiz Bowl team participated in the State History Bowl held at Zachary High School. The team of Harrison Breland-Triche, Dalton Duhe’, Austin Stuckey, and Daniel Guidry placed fifth in the competition. Each of the boys completed a test to earn a spot to potentially compete in the National Competition.

The Quiz Bowl team participated in the Regional Science Bowl on March 7th at UNO. Science Bowl is sponsored by the Department of Energy. Each team member received a free T-shirt for the event and a bag from Strategic Petroleum. The team of Harrison Breland-Triche, Xavien Adams, Jay Sharma, Cayleigh Van Cleave, and Daniel Guidry reached the top six, just one step off the trophy round! The team defeated St. Amant, Caddo Magnet, and Bay High School, and lost by only two points to Baton Rouge High and LSMSA!

Quiz bowl is a fast-paced buzzer competition in which teams of four players compete to answer questions. The questions cover academic subjects, like literature and science, as well as the broader world of popular culture and current events.  The Woodlawn High Quiz Bowl team welcome students who enjoy trivia and learning new information about numerous topics, with a little competition added to the equation.

The Louisiana State Quiz Bowl competition will take place on Saturday, March 21st at Southside High School in Youngsville.

AP Students Present Farmers Market Job Fair

AP Students Present Farmers Market Job Fair

Students in Ms. Risher’s AP Human Geography classes created an exhibit for our Farmers Market Job Fair this week. Each group was assigned a specific form of agriculture. Their goal was to become an expert on their type farming and be able to sell their farming practice to prospective farmers in a job fair setting.

Students were given the task of creating a presentation that was fun and interesting in order to attract people to their type of agriculture. Students also were responsible for informing potential “customers” of the drawbacks of their particular type of agriculture.

Presentations were interesting, engaging, and very informative.  The students especially enjoyed the dairy farmers sharing ice cream treats during their presentations!

Students were graded based on their presentation at their exhibit. Students also visited other exhibits and were expected to complete guided notes about each exhibit they visited.

Godspell Jr. to Hit Woodlawn Stage

Godspell Jr. to Hit Woodlawn Stage

The Woodlawn High School Theatre Program will be presenting Godspell Jr. on Thursday, March 26th. Boasting a score with chart topping songs, Godspell Jr. is a sensation that will touch audiences.

A group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life.

A school performance will be presented during 2nd period and an after school performance for friends and family will be offered at 6 pm that evening. Tickets are $2 for the school performance and $5 for the evening performance.
