Woodlawn Great Scholars Academy
Great Scholars Academy Description
Woodlawn High School offers Great Scholars Academy for students that have met the criteria for grades 9-12. This program parallels the Gifted Program, but Great Scholars students are placed in separate classes from the gifted students. At WHS, these classes are taught by many of the same teachers as the Gifted Program and have a reduced class size compared to the traditional classes. The average class size for Great Scholars Academy is 20 students per class. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher to continue to participate in this program. Students must exhibit positive behavior and conformance to behavior standards set by WHS and the district.
Entrance Requirements:
  1. Parental Consent
  2. Overall 2.5 GPA for previous school year
  3. 84 percentile or higher IQ composite score on district approved intelligence test -or- National Percentile Rank of 84 or higher (i.e. Mastery level or above) in two subject areas on a standardized test administered in the last twelve months
  4. Motivation towards excellence in academics
Applications:

In order to participate in this program at WHS, you must live in the WHS attendance zone or request a transfer from the Gifted Office. When completing the application for Great Scholars Academy, please indicate that Woodlawn High School is the requested school site. If you do not live in the WHS attendance zone, you must include a justifiable reason for why this site has been chosen and check the box indicating that you will provide transportation for your child. All applicants must include a copy of his/her standardized test scores that were administered in the last twelve months. Submit all applications and appropriate documentation to Ms. Miller at Woodlawn High School.

*Students do not need to complete a new application each year. Only newly qualified students or students new to WHS need to complete an application. If you are currently participating in Great Scholars Academy at another site, please indicate this at the top of the application.
