Each week the Panther Play by Play will review the athletic contests from the previous week and look forward to the coming week’s action.

Cross Country

The Panthers had a much needed break after running races during the three previous weekends. However, the Panthers did put in a strong week of practice around campus.

The Cross Country team will be back in action this coming weekend at the Zachary High School Bronco XC Stampede at the Historic Pride-Port Hudson Site.

Football

It was a rough week for our Panther Football team on the field of play. All three levels of the program faced the Zachary Broncos. The freshman and JV teams each hosted Zachary on Tuesday, with both teams falling short. Our freshmen battled before falling 30-18 to the Broncos, and the JV team fell 27-0 afterwards.

On Friday, the varsity team traveled to Zachary for their first District 4-5A contest. The home team came out on top by the score of 57-21.

Swim

Our Panther Swim Team had solid times in the CCSL Make up meet which was held Sunday, October 1st.

The Panthers had several top ten finishes in different individual events. John Cador finished 9th in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle. Zack Lemoine finished 8th in the Boys 200 Yard IM. James Skiles finished 8th in the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly. Finally, Isabella Winter placed 9th in the Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke.

In addition to these swimmers who finished in the top ten, the following Panthers had strong showings in their races as well: Breanna Barrios (Girls 50 Yard Freestyle, Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke), Norman Collins (Boys 50 Yard Freestyle, Boys 100 Yard Backstroke), Vincent Nguyen (Boys 50 Yard Freestyle), Christian Dorsey (Boys 50 Yard Freestyle), Alex Collins (Boys 100 Yard Butterfly, Boys 100 Yard Backstroke), Ben Mackay (Boys 100 Yard Freestyle, Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke), Vincent Nguyen (Boys 100 Yard Backstroke), and D’ontrell Dyson (Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke).

Winter (Girls 100 Yard Freestyle), Lemoine (Boys 100 Yard Freestyle), Cador (Boys 100 Yard Backstroke), and Skiles (Boys 100 Yard Backstroke) also finished with great times in other events outside of their top ten finishes.

Volleyball

After a perfect week last week, our Lady Panther Volleyball team saw action in four matches which were all on the road this week. Our Panthers finished the week with a 2-2 record.

The Lady Panthers opened the week on Monday by traveling to White Castle. While the JV team came up short, the varsity team finished with a 4 set to 1 victory (21-25, 25-8, 25-17, 25-21).

Wednesday, the Lady Panthers traveled to LSU’s campus to face University Lab. It was a tough night for our volleyball team, as all three levels lost to the home team.

Finally, the volleyball team traveled to the New Orleans area to participate in the Academy of Our Lady Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Panthers split their two games, falling in their opening match to Newman before defeating Walker in their second match of the day.

Winter Sports Practice Underway

Boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls soccer, powerlifting, and tennis are all practicing in preparation for their upcoming seasons.
