Club Overview:
The International Thespian Society is an honor society for high school theatre students. The mission of ITS is to recognize, reward, and celebrate student achievement in the theatre arts. It honors students who demonstrate excellence in all aspects of theatre – from performance to production. Becoming a member provides access to national recognition and exclusive opportunities, offering a broader perspective and additional resources for those passionate about theatre.

If a member doesn’t have their own book, they can ask Ms. Rogillio or Ms. Jones for recommendations and check out a book from the WHS library. There are no discussions or disruptions during the session, promoting an individual experience while fostering a sense of community among readers.

Club Activities:

  • Interviewing Students/Faculty: Members will gather stories, quotes, and personal experiences from students and faculty.

  • Students are expected to attend at least one conference during the year.

  • Two District New Member meetings.

Club Overview:
The YMCA Youth & Government program aims to inspire and prepare young leaders to be active participants in their communities and the democratic process. The mission of this program is two-fold:

  1. To foster leadership through service, fellowship, responsibility, and respect.
  2. To educate and engage students in the workings of government at local, national, and international levels.

This program gives students the chance to experience the democratic process firsthand and to develop leadership skills. Participants are involved in Youth Legislature and Model United Nations, where they will take on real-world roles in government and diplomacy.

Club Activities:

  1. Youth Legislature Conference: Students will simulate the process of government, assuming roles in the three branches of government, drafting and debating legislation, and engaging in leadership development.
  2. Model United Nations Conference: Participants will represent a country and engage in global discussions, learning about international relations, debate, and resolution writing.
  3. District Conferences and Preparation: Students will prepare for their conferences by authoring bills and engaging in training sessions to learn about the legislative process and parliamentary procedures.

Goals for the Year:

  • Get a member elected to the state board.
  • Aim for half of the submitted bills to pass.
  • Increase membership, particularly after losses due to graduating members.

Model United Nations provides a challenging three-day program where students represent countries and engage in negotiations. The Louisiana YMCA Youth Legislature offers a unique opportunity for students to simulate legislative procedures, understand the democratic process, and gain leadership skills.
